For some people, social media is a stepping stone and for others, it is just a place to have all the fun in the world. True as it is, social media has made life amusing but it is important to weigh in that whatever we do on social media, one way or the other affects our reputation. Google defines reputation as the beliefs or opinions that are generally held about someone or something or it is how much respect and admiration someone or something receives, based on past behaviour or character(English dictionary). People easily become familiarised with what they see and for the internet, whatever you put out there, seems to depict who you really are. You may have a private life, but that is only known to your everyday people.
Predominantly, we must heed to whatever we upload on our platforms. It isn't startlinh that the TRUMP ADMINISTRATION is set to request five years of social media history for all visa applicants. To maintain a good reputation, we must as well not overlook our social media life.Talk of the images we upload, what we share and write on our walls, our tweets, the comments we give, especially to avoid cyberbullying and businesswise, the way we respond to our customers so we do not loose them.
Online, we tend to meet very influencial people and some are making good use of such opportunities as a benefit derived from using social media. For the youth, this should be one of our topmost priorities and as such we must build positive reputations.
It is also important to note that, our online footprints are left forever and this is why we must post right in other not to ruin the future.#postright

WHY IS SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTIVE?
Ever find yourself procrastinating from studying by scrolling through your Instragram feed or playing some mobile game like CandyCrush when initially you only planned to search for the answer to one of your questions on Google or message a friend on Whatsapp?
Here's How!
HABITS.
Here's How!
HABITS.
What both good and bad habits have in common, are their ability to help the brain preserve critical cognitive resources. This can then be used for more important mental tasks such as decision-making and self-control regulation.
It is often said that ‘habits die hard,’ and the reason for this lays in how habits form in our brain. When we do something we like and accomplish the task at hand, our reward system in our brain (the mesolimbic dopamine system to be exact), produces a hormone called dopamine. Dopamine (otherwise known as the happiness hormone) make us feel good, so we tend to repeat behaviors that give us pleasure. Over time, these behaviors (done repeatedly) turn into habits and become hardwired in the brain, making it both difficult and unpleasant to undo.
This habit-forming process is fundamental to how social media developers design mobile apps and online platforms.
THE ATARI MODEL.
ATARI stands for Attitude, Trigger, Action, Reward, Investment (so no reference to the 80’s video game computer).
AttitudeThis dimension of the model refers to the psychological profile of your user. Understanding your users’ personality, behavioral preferences, likes, desires, opinions and motivation (otherwise known as psychographics) will help you to understand ‘WHY’ they would use your social media site, product or service. Most (social media) mobile apps and online platforms collect user psychographic data.
TriggerTriggers are notifications that inform you to take action. Before habit-forming behaviors can be created, behaviors first need to be initiated. According to BJ Fogg’s Behavioral Model, triggers need to be easy to execute and appealing to do. Especially the appealing part is really important, that is why ‘Attitude’ precedes ‘Trigger’. If you know why someone will take action, your triggers can be designed to appeal to their immediate needs.
ActionOnce a successful ‘Trigger’ has initiated behavior, ‘Action’ can be taken to fulfill the task at hand and thus help fulfill that immediate need. Take, for example, clicking on an Instagram notification to view your friends’ latest pictures or seeing who liked your posts.
RewardThe most insidious dimension of the ATARI model is ‘Reward’. Getting 100 likes on your Facebook post or finding the perfect match on Tinder is just the reward you have been expecting for the effort you have put into achieving your goal. However, if you think carefully about your social media usage, you don’t always get rewarded for scrolling on your timeline. When rewards are unexpected, the science of human behavior shows us that people will continue that behavior in anticipation of a reward. Scrolling your timeline is like pulling the handle of a slot machine and playing the lottery.
InvestmentThe final dimension refers to the time, data, social capital, and/or money that is put into using the app as ‘Investment’. Behavioral Science shows that people don’t like to part with things or people where an investment has been made in. This is often referred to as ‘loss aversion’ in psychology. In addition, the fact of investing time or money into something validates our previous behaviors, self-justifying continuous use.

Breaking news
The TRUMP ADMINISTRATION is seeking to change visa applicants to require all applicants to turn over five years social media history. The move is a major expansion of President Donald Trumps effort is implemented 'extreme vetting' and change how immigrants and visitors to the US are processed.
The proposed new rule would require applying for a visa to include their social media usernames on various platforms including Facebook,Twitter or Instagram as well as previous e-mail addresses, phone numbers, international travel ;all from the last five years.
The state department, which filed a notice of the proposed change, estimates it will affect 14.71 million applicants, including those who apply as students, business trips or on vacation.
Maintaining robust screening standards for visa applicants is a dynamic practice that most adapt to emerging threats,'State Departments spokesperson for the Bureau of Consular Affair Virginia Elliott told ABC News'. "Collecting this additional information from visa applicants will strengthen our process for vetting these applicants and confirming their identity.
There is now a 60-day windows for public comments on the proposal that starts Friday and after which time, the rule could be implemented.

Social media evolution.
THEN AND NOW
The roots of social media stretch far deeper than you might imagine.Although it seems like a new trend, sites like Facebook are the natural outcome of many centuries of social media development.
The earliest means of communicating across long distance were letters(mails)which were delivered by hand from one person to another. In the year 1792,telegraph was invented. This allowed messages to be delivered across long distances faster than a horse rider could carry them.Although telegraph messages were short, they were a revolutionary way to convey news and information. However, both technologies are still in use today although the modern versions are much more sophisticated than their predecessors.Telephone lines and radio signals enabled people to communicate across great distances instantaneously, something that mankind had never experienced before.Technology began to change very rapidly in the 20th century. After the first super computers were created in the 1940's,scientists and engineers began to develop ways to create networks between those computers and this later lead to the birth of the internet.
Then AL GORE claimed to have taken the initiative of creating social media. The first recognizable social media site,Six degrees was created in 1997.It enabled users to upload a profile and make friends with other users. In 1999, the first blogging sites became popular and this created a social media sensation that's still popular today. After the invention of blogging,Social media began to explode in popularity. Sites like MySpace and LinkedIn gained prominence in the early 2000's and sites like photobucket and Flickr facilitated online photo sharing. YouTube came out in 2005,creating an entirely new way of communicating. By 2006, Facebook and Twitter both became available to users throughout the world. These sites remain some of the most popular social networks on the internet.Other sites like Tumblr,Spotify,Foursquare and Pinterest began popping up to fill specific social networking niches.Today, there is a tremendous variety of social networking sites and many of them can be linked to allow cross-posting.This creates an environment where users can reach the maximum number of people without sacrificing the intimacy of person-to-person communication.
We can only speculate about what the future of social networking may look in the next decade or even 100 years from now, but it seems clear that it will exist in some form for as long as humans are alive.
